Publix Super Markets Charities Donates $11 Million to Support Local Food Banks and Combat Hunger
As Publix Super Markets kicks off its annual Publix Serves Week, dedicated to feeding neighbors in need, Publix Super Markets Charities (PSMC) is proud to announce an $11 million donation to over 300 local food banks and nonprofits, including 39 Feeding America partner food banks.
“At Publix, we believe that providing food for our neighbors in need is our greatest opportunity to give back, and it lies at the heart of our philanthropic efforts,” said Publix CEO Kevin Murphy.
These funds will support various initiatives, including weekend backpack programs, food pantries, and meal delivery services. A portion of the donation will also be used to purchase 15 vehicles and necessary equipment for Feeding America partner food banks, enhancing their ability to deliver food to those they serve. This brings PSMC’s total investment in hunger relief to over $63 million since 2015.
During Publix Serves Week, nearly 150 nonprofit organizations will benefit from the efforts of more than 7,000 Publix associates who are volunteering in local communities to assist individuals and families facing hunger.
“Publix and Publix Charities’ ongoing collaboration with food banks across the Southeast provides vital resources and nourishment to improve the lives of individuals in our communities,” Murphy added.
Publix’s Ongoing Hunger Initiatives
Throughout the year, Publix actively supports its neighbors in need through register campaigns and food donations.
The biannual Good Together hunger campaign invites customers and associates to join Publix in providing fresh produce and essential nonperishable items to local food banks. Through the Good Together food donation program, Publix donates food that is safe for consumption but no longer salable to Feeding America partner food banks and other nonprofits. This month, the program was expanded to include over 4,000 additional products for donation.
In May, Publix celebrated a milestone of donating more than 100 million pounds of produce to Feeding America partner food banks. This initiative began during the pandemic in 2020 to support struggling farmers and provide fresh fruits and vegetables to food banks experiencing increased demand.
