Uber Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: UBER) and Waymo LLC have announced an expansion of their partnership, bringing fully autonomous ride-hailing to Austin and Atlanta through the Uber app starting in early 2025. This expanded collaboration will see Uber managing and dispatching Waymo’s all-electric, autonomous Jaguar I-PACE vehicles in these cities, with the fleet expected to grow to hundreds of cars over time. Riders requesting UberX, Uber Green, Uber Comfort, or Uber Comfort Electric may be matched with a Waymo vehicle for qualifying trips.
“We’re excited to extend our successful partnership with Waymo, which has already facilitated fully autonomous rides for tens of thousands of users in Phoenix,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “Soon, riders in Austin and Atlanta will experience the same innovation through a dedicated fleet of autonomous Waymo vehicles, available exclusively via Uber.”
Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo, added, “Our mission is to be the world’s most trusted driver, and we’re eager to expand our autonomous services with Uber in Austin and Atlanta. The positive feedback from our Waymo One riders encourages us to continue bringing the convenience and safety of the Waymo Driver to more communities.”
As part of this collaboration, Uber will handle fleet management services, including vehicle cleaning, repairs, and depot operations. Waymo will continue to manage the operation and testing of its autonomous vehicles, offering roadside assistance and specific rider support.
