Brambles’ 2024 Sustainability Review: Pioneering Regenerative Supply Networks

Brambles Releases 2024 Sustainability Review: Leading the Charge in Regenerative Supply Networks

Brambles has unveiled its 2024 Sustainability Review, showcasing significant progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives across its global operations for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.

“The remarkable strides toward Brambles’ 2025 sustainability goals reflect the collective efforts of our employees, customers, and partners. This progress brings us closer to our vision of regenerating the world’s supply networks,” said Graham Chipchase, CEO of Brambles.

The review highlights the benefits of Brambles’ circular model and regenerative approach, demonstrating a substantial reduction in reliance on natural resources and an increased use of recycled content. The company’s collaboration with CHEP customers and partners to decarbonize the supply chain, coupled with reduced pallet purchases, resulted in an 8% decrease in Scope 3 emissions compared to fiscal year 2023. Brambles also achieved a 1% year-on-year reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, keeping it on track to meet its science-based targets by 2030.

Key achievements in the 2024 Sustainability Review include:

  • Supporting the sustainable growth of 1.7 million additional trees, alongside the 2.6 million replaced through forestry certification programs, while maintaining 100% sustainable sourcing.
  • Doubling the use of post-consumer waste in products, with upcycled recycled content making up 42% of all plastic material purchased.
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15% across the entire value chain (Scope 1, 2, and 3) from the fiscal year 2020 baseline, while maintaining carbon-neutral operations (Scope 1 and 2).
  • Increasing customer participation in collaboration projects by 37.2% (491 customers) and expanding collaborative initiatives by 15.9% (2,042 initiatives).
  • Improving safety with a reduction in the Brambles Injury Frequency Rate (BIFR) for the fifth consecutive year and advancing gender equality, with women holding 37.5% of all management roles.
  • Contributing $9.4 million to local communities through partnerships with food banks, financial and in-kind donations, and employee volunteering.

“Our commitment to regeneration is more crucial than ever. We aim to showcase the commercial, environmental, and societal benefits of this approach and inspire the necessary actions to restore and replenish our natural systems,” added Chipchase.

In its ongoing commitment to transparency, Brambles is an early adopter of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures framework and has outlined nature-related impacts and dependencies in its 2024 report. The company also continues to lead in climate disclosures, providing a detailed update on its climate transition and adaptation strategies in its 2024 annual report.

Brambles’ sustainability leadership has been recognized globally, with TIME Magazine ranking the company No. 4 on its inaugural list of the world’s most sustainable companies. Additionally, Corporate Knights named Brambles the second most sustainable corporation in the world for 2024, and the company retained the top position in its industry category on the 2023 Dow Jones Sustainability Index.
