A major takeaway was that lack of interoperability—the ability for various tech tools, software, and platforms to seamlessly work together—poses significant challenges to e-commerce operations. All executives surveyed agreed that this issue negatively impacts business, with 48% citing data analytics and 46% pointing to issues in returns processing as major hurdles. Difficulty tracking orders and receiving updates were also noted as pain points, all of which affect brand loyalty and customer satisfaction.

Other insights from the report include:

  • Global Expansion: 99% of executives see cross-border selling as a crucial opportunity.
  • Tech Stack Overload: 51% of respondents reported using five or more platforms, exacerbating interoperability challenges.
  • Consolidation for Success: 66% believe streamlining operations is key for effective cross-border fulfillment.
