Kenvue Inc. (NYSE: KVUE), the company behind iconic brands such as Aveeno®, Listerine®, Neutrogena®, and Tylenol®, is advancing its climate action initiatives as part of its Healthy Lives Mission. The company has also released its first Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) report, marking a key milestone in its sustainability journey.
Pamela Gill-Alabaster, Global ESG and Sustainability Director at Kenvue, commented, “The publication of our TCFD report is a significant step in integrating climate concerns into our overall business strategy, operations, and value chain. We’ve made notable progress, including having our near-term greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and publishing our first Healthy Lives Mission report, which highlights our ambition to contribute to a healthier future.”
Kenvue’s Healthy Lives Mission is based on the understanding that human health and environmental sustainability are interconnected. This sentiment resonates with consumers, as a survey conducted by Kenvue earlier this year revealed that three in four adults globally recognize the link between climate change and human health. Additionally, 86% of respondents expect the health impacts of climate change to worsen over the next 5 to 10 years.
The company’s climate goals, part of its Healthy Planet strategy, focus on enhancing sustainability throughout its operations. Key achievements highlighted in the Healthy Lives Mission 2023 report include:
- A 26% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions since 2020, achieved through investments in energy efficiency and decarbonization projects.
- 21% of Kenvue’s suppliers have established science-based emissions targets for goods, services, and transportation.
- Renewable energy now accounts for 65% of Kenvue’s electricity consumption, thanks to the installation of 18 solar-powered electrical systems and renewable electricity purchase agreements.
- The company has increased its use of recyclable or refillable packaging to 71% of its portfolio and reduced virgin plastic in packaging by 21%.
In 2024, Kenvue completed solar panel installations at its manufacturing sites in Sezanne, France, and Madra, Greece, contributing to its goal of running 100% of its operations on renewable electricity by 2030. Additional installations are planned for sites in South Africa, China, and Indonesia later this year.
Kenvue is also addressing upstream indirect Scope 3 GHG emissions. The company launched a climate action program to help its suppliers set science-based targets and decarbonize their operations. Through its involvement in the Energize program, Kenvue is assisting suppliers with renewable electricity procurement opportunities.
In its broader commitment to collaboration, Kenvue is engaged in various climate-focused alliances, including WWF’s Climate Business Network and the Renewable Thermal Collaborative. Additionally, the company recently joined the Future’s Climate and Health Coalition, which seeks to transform climate and health systems for the benefit of both people and the planet.
