Samsara Eco and NILIT to Develop World’s First Nylon 6,6 Recycling Facility

Samsara Eco, a pioneer in environmental technologies, and NILIT, a leading producer of nylon 6,6 for apparel, have announced plans to establish the world’s first textile-to-nylon 6,6 recycled polymer production facility in Southeast Asia. This groundbreaking initiative aims to advance the recycling of nylon 6,6 and close the loop on this widely used fiber.

“The collaboration between NILIT and Samsara Eco is a pivotal element of our strategy to offer premium nylon 6,6 products with reduced environmental impact,” said Paul Riley, CEO and Founder of Samsara Eco.

Recycling Nylon 6,6 for a Sustainable Future

Annually, approximately 4 million tonnes of nylon 6,6 are produced, making it a staple in the fashion and apparel industries. However, recycling this material is notoriously challenging, particularly when blended with other fibers like spandex. Samsara Eco and NILIT are tackling this issue head-on.

The planned facility, set to be operational by the end of 2026, will be equipped to recycle textile waste into high-quality recycled nylon 6,6 polymers. These polymers can be seamlessly integrated into existing supply chains to produce new textile fabrics.

“Our vision is to repair the climate through infinite recycling. By establishing the first circular supply chain for nylon 6,6, we aim to divert discarded garments, such as sportswear and car interiors, from landfills and incineration,” said Riley.

This Memorandum of Understanding is a crucial step in advancing the circularity of nylon 6,6 and reducing plastic waste. Introducing EosEco™ Technology

The EosEco™ technology, developed by Samsara Eco, is the first to infinitely recycle nylon 6,6. It utilizes a combination of biophysics, chemistry, biology, and AI to create plastic-eating enzymes that break down plastic waste, including nylon 6,6 textiles, into raw materials. These raw materials are then integrated into existing manufacturing processes to create a true closed loop. EosEco™ can handle a variety of raw materials, including colored and blended textiles.
