Dana McNabb to oversee all operating segments and key functions as General Mills strengthens leadership team and expands operational focus.
General Mills has announced a significant leadership transition with the promotion of Dana McNabb to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective June 1, 2026. The appointment marks a major step in the company’s long-term growth strategy as the global food giant looks to strengthen operations, accelerate innovation, and drive sustainable profitability across its businesses worldwide. McNabb will continue reporting directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Harmening while also joining the company’s board of directors, further expanding her influence within the organization.
The promotion reflects General Mills’ confidence in McNabb’s leadership capabilities and her proven track record of delivering results across multiple business segments. In her new position as COO, McNabb will oversee all of the company’s operating divisions and several critical corporate functions. Alongside her current responsibilities leading the North America Retail and North America Pet businesses, she will now assume oversight of the International and North America Foodservice segments. Additionally, she will guide several key operational teams, including Digital & Technology, Innovation, Technology & Quality, Strategy and Growth, and Supply Chain operations.
The expanded role positions McNabb at the center of General Mills’ global operations during a time when the food and consumer packaged goods industry is rapidly evolving. Companies across the sector are facing changing consumer preferences, inflationary pressures, supply chain challenges, and growing demand for digital transformation and product innovation. By consolidating leadership responsibilities under McNabb, General Mills aims to create stronger alignment across its global operations while reinforcing its focus on long-term profitable growth.
Chairman and CEO Jeff Harmening praised McNabb’s leadership qualities and strategic vision while announcing the promotion. Harmening described her as a disciplined and results-oriented executive who consistently demonstrates passion for General Mills’ brands, consumers, and business performance. He emphasized that McNabb has played a major role in initiatives designed to strengthen the company’s brands and increase their relevance and appeal in a highly competitive marketplace.
According to Harmening, McNabb’s ability to think ahead and act decisively has helped drive efforts to reinvigorate the company’s portfolio of products. Her leadership has focused on making brands more distinctive and meaningful to consumers, an important strategy as companies compete for attention in crowded grocery aisles and digital retail platforms. Harmening noted that her strategic mindset and operational expertise make her exceptionally qualified to lead General Mills’ worldwide operations and help restore profitable growth for both the company and its shareholders.
McNabb has built an extensive career at General Mills spanning more than two decades. She most recently served as Group President of North America Retail, a role she assumed in 2024. In 2025, she expanded her leadership responsibilities to include the North America Pet business, one of the company’s key growth segments. Under her leadership, both divisions focused on strengthening brand performance, improving operational execution, and responding to evolving consumer trends.
Before leading North America Retail and Pet, McNabb held several high-profile executive roles within the company. She previously served as Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, where she helped shape the company’s long-term strategic direction and growth priorities. In that role, she worked across multiple business units to identify new opportunities, drive innovation, and position the company for future success in changing market conditions.
McNabb also served as Group President for General Mills’ Europe & Australia segment, where she gained valuable international leadership experience managing diverse markets and consumer needs across different regions. Her global perspective is expected to be especially valuable in her new COO role, where she will oversee operations across multiple geographies and business categories.
Another notable role in McNabb’s career was her leadership of the company’s U.S. Cereal operating unit. Breakfast cereal has long been one of General Mills’ core businesses, featuring iconic brands recognized by consumers around the world. Leading the cereal business provided McNabb with firsthand experience managing large-scale consumer brands, navigating category competition, and driving marketing and innovation initiatives in a mature yet highly important product segment.
Earlier in her career, McNabb served as Vice President of Global Marketing for Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW), General Mills’ joint venture with Nestlé headquartered in Switzerland. The role further strengthened her international business expertise and exposed her to global consumer trends, brand development strategies, and cross-market operational management. Her experience with CPW also deepened her understanding of partnership-driven growth and international market expansion.
McNabb began her journey with General Mills in Canada in 1999. Over the years, she has gained broad experience across many of the company’s major business categories, including cereal, snacks, meals, and dairy. Her extensive background in marketing and business leadership has given her a deep understanding of consumer behavior, brand positioning, and innovation strategy. This broad expertise is expected to play a critical role as she takes on responsibility for overseeing the company’s global operations.
Her educational background also reflects her strong business foundation. McNabb earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Ottawa before completing a master’s degree in business administration from the London School of Business. The combination of academic achievement and decades of practical leadership experience has helped shape her reputation as one of the company’s most accomplished executives.
In addition to her corporate responsibilities, McNabb also serves on the board of directors of Cereal Partners Worldwide. Her board experience complements her operational leadership and provides additional insight into governance, international strategy, and organizational management.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for General Mills as the company continues adapting to shifts in the global food industry. Consumers are increasingly seeking healthier options, convenient meal solutions, sustainable products, and digitally connected shopping experiences. Food manufacturers must also navigate volatile commodity costs, supply chain disruptions, and rising competition from both established brands and emerging challengers.
General Mills has been investing heavily in innovation, digital transformation, and operational efficiency to remain competitive and drive future growth. McNabb’s expanded leadership role suggests the company is prioritizing integrated decision-making and operational excellence across all business functions. By placing multiple operating divisions and strategic functions under one experienced executive, General Mills hopes to improve collaboration, accelerate execution, and enhance overall organizational performance.
Industry analysts may also view the promotion as part of General Mills’ broader succession planning efforts. As COO and board member, McNabb will now hold one of the most influential leadership positions within the company, giving her greater visibility into enterprise-wide strategy and operations. Her promotion signals the company’s confidence in her ability to help shape the future direction of the organization.
For employees, investors, and industry observers, McNabb’s appointment represents continuity combined with forward-looking leadership. Her deep institutional knowledge, international experience, and track record of driving brand growth position her as a key leader in helping General Mills navigate an increasingly dynamic business environment.
As she prepares to step into her new role in June 2026, McNabb will be tasked with leading one of the world’s largest food companies through its next phase of transformation and growth. With responsibility spanning multiple operating divisions and strategic functions, her leadership will play a central role in determining how General Mills evolves to meet the demands of modern consumers while continuing to deliver value for shareholders worldwide.
