IFF to Unveil New State-of-the-Art Innovation Center in Shanghai by August 2024
IFF (NYSE: IFF), a global leader in food and beverage, home and personal care, scent, and health, has announced its plan to complete the renovation and expansion of its facilities at the Shanghai Hongqiao Airport Business Park. The new “Shanghai Creative Center,” spanning 16,000 square meters, will be IFF’s largest facility in Asia and is set to be fully operational by the end of August 2024. This development aims to propel innovation across IFF’s portfolio in China and the Greater Asia region, reinforcing its global leadership in fragrances, flavors, functional ingredients, and bioscience-based products.
“The Shanghai Creative Center will consolidate IFF’s capabilities in one location, enhancing our ability to deliver comprehensive solutions for customers across Asia and globally,” said Erik Fyrwald, CEO of IFF. “Following the opening of our Singapore Innovation Center in 2022, this step further underscores our commitment to advancing innovation in Asia.”
Since entering the Chinese market in 1981 as the first multinational fragrance and flavor company to establish a presence, IFF has continually demonstrated its commitment to the region. The new center highlights the growing importance of Asia for IFF, particularly as China emerges as a key market for flavors, fragrances, and bioscience-based products. As consumer demand for longevity and healthy lifestyles rises, IFF’s expertise and investment in this center will enable the company to quickly and effectively introduce differentiated products that support its customers’ brand growth strategies in China.

The center is designed to foster collaboration and co-creation, featuring an open-office layout, a sensory science center, a Scent creative center, and cutting-edge labs for creation, design, and product analysis. It also includes a culinary demo kitchen, a pioneering instant noodle pilot line, an exclusive fine fragrance area, and a groundbreaking 360° digital space for immersive olfactory experiences and live-streaming educational workshops.
This multifaceted facility will not only empower perfumers and flavorists to develop innovative sensory experiences but also strategically cater to the diverse tastes of Chinese consumers, serving both local and international markets.
