It’s truly an honor and privilege for me to be here. I had the privilege to serve my country in a time of need.
- Allen Q. Jones, a 100-year-old WWII Veteran
As Americans across the nation engage in Memorial Day Weekend activities, World War II veteran Allen Q. Jones will find himself in familiar surroundings, as he has for the past five years: at Lowe’s in Mooresville, North Carolina, observing his son-in-law perform TAPS on the trumpet. This year, he’ll witness the event at the remarkable age of 100, a milestone that symbolizes a century of life marked by resilience and service. This occasion holds immense significance, prompting Kelly Fox, Central Teams Execution Manager at Lowe’s, to recognize its importance and advocate for its sharing and celebration.
Lowe’s recognizes the importance of celebrating Allen’s service and 100th birthday due to his steadfast support for the company. As a WWII veteran reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 years, Allen’s dedication is truly exceptional. This celebration serves as a testament to Lowe’s commitment to supporting the military community, exemplifying just one of the many ways in which the company expresses its gratitude.
In honor of Allen’s contributions and recent centennial, Lowe’s went all out at the corporate office, laying out the blue carpet and adorning the space with balloons to commemorate the special bond between the veteran and the store. Having served as an Army Tanker since being drafted straight out of high school in 1943, Allen has acquired valuable life lessons. He attributes longevity to gratitude towards God, advocates daily walks for fitness, and underscores the importance of daily mental exercises like crosswords and word searches to stay sharp.
Lowe’s extends warm wishes to Allen on his 100th Birthday and expresses gratitude to him and all who have served the country as we honor their sacrifice on this Memorial Day.
