Walmart Unveils Transformative 350-Acre Home Office Campus in Bentonville
Today, Walmart unveiled its groundbreaking new Home Office campus in Northwest Arkansas, a 350-acre sustainably designed hub intended to serve as the epicenter for the world’s largest retailer. This monumental development represents a paradigm shift in corporate headquarters, emphasizing employee well-being, environmental sustainability, and integration with the local community.
This state-of-the-art campus embodies multibillion-dollar investment in creating a forward-thinking workplace that prioritizes associate experience, environmental leadership, and community connectivity. Featuring mass timber construction, renewable energy solutions, and seamless integration with Downtown Bentonville, the project is set to open in phases through 2025. The inaugural celebration marks the beginning of a transformative journey for the company and its associates.
“Our new Home Office honors our heritage and the generations of associates who have helped make a leader in retail,” said Doug McMillon, CEO. “Sam Walton, our founder, believed in the power of collaboration and innovation. This campus is designed to enable ideas to flourish as we continue to positively impact the lives of our customers.”
Realizing a Vision of the Future
The new Home Office represents the fulfillment of a vision first announced in 2019 when committed to reimagining its corporate workspace to meet the evolving needs of modern retail. Drawing on extensive feedback from associates and leveraging cutting-edge design principles, the campus integrates advanced technology with the warmth and accessibility that have defined Walmart’s culture for over six decades.

Celebrating Tradition While Embracing Innovation
The campus blends rich history with a future-focused design philosophy. At its heart is Sam Walton Hall, a sprawling 200,000-square-foot auditorium that features advanced conference facilities and learning spaces. This venue will serve as a hub for collaboration and celebration among Walmart associates globally. During the opening ceremony, held in Sam Walton Hall, several key features of the campus were unveiled:
- Welcome Center: A central gateway offering a warm and inviting introduction to the campus for visitors and associates.
- Helen’s Amphitheatre: A beautiful outdoor venue named in honor of Helen Robson Walton, featuring terraced seating and a tree-lined lawn for gatherings and events.
- 8th & Plate: A vibrant food hall offering diverse global cuisine through seven coffee shops, food truck pavilions, grab-and-go markets, a rooftop lounge, and street-front retail and dining options.
- Office Spaces: Two of the campus’s 12 office buildings, named “Cheer” and “Ol’ Roy,” were unveiled. These spaces are designed to reflect Walmart’s history, culture, and the leaders who have shaped the company.
- Street-Front Retail: Public-facing retail spaces will feature a mix of local and national brands, such as Bentonville Bicycle Company, Flyway Brewing, Gearhead Outfitters, and Wright’s BBQ. These spaces will be open by spring 2025.
A Workplace Designed for Associates
The campus’s associate-first approach is evident in its design, which includes ample natural light, diverse dining options, and modern amenities. Among the highlights are the Walton Family Whole Health & Fitness facility, a 360,000-square-foot wellness center, and the Little Squiggles Children’s Enrichment Center, an on-site childcare facility that opened in 2024. These features underscore Walmart’s commitment to fostering associate wellness and work-life balance.
Outdoor spaces further enhance the associate experience, with more than 750,000 native plants, 5,000 trees, and shaded walkways that encourage active commuting. Dedicated bike paths, a rentable bike fleet, and over 1,000 bike parking spots promote sustainable transportation. Additionally, the integration of green spaces accounts for 50% of the campus, creating a tranquil environment that connects associates with nature.
Leading in Sustainability and Smart Design
Walmart’s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout the campus. Twelve office buildings constructed using mass timber—the largest application of its kind in the U.S.—are designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification. Renewable energy powers the campus, while smart technology optimizes energy efficiency and water management. For instance, 13 acres of lake reservoirs feature advanced water management systems, and dynamic glass reduces energy consumption across all structures.
To further enhance sustainability, the campus includes 300 EV charging stations, pedestrian paths, and bike trails, ensuring eco-friendly transportation options for associates and visitors. The use of autonomous technologies such as drone-based window cleaning and robotic lawn mowers highlights the innovative approach taken in facility management.
Engaging the Community
Walmart’s new Home Office isn’t just a corporate campus—it’s a community hub. With street-front retail spaces, outdoor venues, and accessible pathways, the campus fosters connection between Walmart associates and the Bentonville community. This collaboration reflects Walmart’s long-standing dedication to community engagement and economic growth.
