The ODP Corporation (NASDAQ), a leader in providing products and services through a comprehensive business-to-business (B2B) distribution platform and omnichannel presence, has announced the implementation of state-of-the-art Generative AI (Gen AI) technology across its Office Depot and OfficeMax stores nationwide. This move marks a significant enhancement in customer experience and underscores the Company’s commitment to embracing innovative artificial intelligence solutions.

The ODP Personal Assistant, an in-house developed AI application utilizing technology similar to ChatGPT, was introduced in February 2023 and deployed to thousands of associates across all business units. Following early successes, the application has been expanded to include extensive knowledge bases, enabling associates to quickly access answers to common questions and improve customer service. Since December 2023, a dedicated retail knowledge base has been available on store computers and handheld devices used by associates.

Key Benefits of the Knowledge Base Integration:

  • Immediate Access to Information: Associates can now interact with the ODP Personal Assistant using natural language queries to receive swift responses, replacing traditional methods of consulting colleagues or navigating company portals, thereby significantly improving efficiency.
  • Comprehensive Knowledge Bases: The integration of Gen AI technology allows associates to access relevant internal information through the ODP Personal Assistant application. This capability supports natural language queries and provides immediate, well-cited responses, enhancing associates’ ability to assist customers. Approximately 900 stores and 12,000 associates are equipped with this advanced AI integration.
  • Enhanced Customer Experience: With faster access to crucial data, associates can spend more time engaging with customers, providing quicker and more accurate responses. This improvement supports the delivery of exceptional customer service.

This initiative has modernized the Company’s retail environments since the end of 2023, enriching the customer experience and setting the stage for future AI technology applications.
