Southeastern Grocers Invests $75,000 in Scholarships and Launches Dynamic Internship Program to Support Future Leaders

Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), the parent company of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie, has announced a $75,000 allocation in higher education scholarships for 25 outstanding associates from in-store and store support center roles. Demonstrating its ongoing dedication to the grocery industry’s future, SEG has also introduced a dynamic summer internship program designed to offer valuable educational support and hands-on professional development for emerging leaders.

Raymond Rhee, Chief People Officer for Southeastern Grocers, emphasized, “Investing in our associates and fostering the next generation of leaders is crucial for the future. Our scholarship and internship programs provide more than just financial support; they offer educational opportunities, robust training, and career advancement, laying the groundwork for a more innovative and successful industry. Our commitment to nurturing emerging talent is pivotal in shaping a brighter future for all.”

SEG’s investment in its associates is reflected in the scholarships awarded, with each recipient receiving $3,000 to cover educational expenses for the upcoming semester. Since the program’s inception in 2020, SEG has awarded $287,000 in scholarships to deserving associates. Associates with at least six months of tenure and a high school diploma or equivalent are encouraged to apply each year.

The summer internship program further underscores SEG’s dedication to future talent. Over 12 weeks, 13 interns, including international students, gained experience across various departments such as accounting, finance, digital marketing, HR, IT, and operations. Interns managed their own projects, participated in over 30 business workshops, personal and professional development sessions, and engaged in community volunteer work. The program offered networking opportunities and insights into the company’s operations, with potential for continued employment post-graduation.

SEG’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace is evident from its recognition by Newsweek’s 2024 America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity list, where it received a 4-star rating for the second year in a row. SEG also earned a Great Place to Work® certification for the fourth consecutive year, was featured on Fortune’s Best Workplaces in Retail list, and received accolades from America’s Greatest Workplaces for Women for its efforts in providing work-life balance and developing female leaders.

SEG’s dedication to associate development is further supported by its nine resource groups, including MOSAIC, Women’s Development Network, Emerging Leaders, and others. The company also emphasizes leadership development through its Empowered Leadership, Advance Leadership, and Next Degree Leadership programs.

As a people-first organization, SEG offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 401(k) matching, associate discounts, quarterly bonuses, and robust health benefits. The company supports work-life balance with paid time off, paid holidays, parental leave, and a flexible work environment that fosters inclusion and social responsibility.
