Amazon has unveiled its Best Books of 2026 So Far list, highlighting the most acclaimed titles selected by its editorial team during the first half of the year. Compiled from the Editors’ monthly recommendations, the annual list showcases standout books across a wide range of genres, offering readers plenty of inspiration for summer reading.
The list features the Editors’ top 20 books alongside notable selections in categories such as literary fiction, mystery and thrillers, romance and romantasy, history, nonfiction, biographies and memoirs, debut works, cookbooks, and children’s literature. Amazon has also introduced a new Book Club Picks category, designed to spotlight titles that spark meaningful discussions among readers. Another new feature allows readers to follow individual Amazon Editors whose tastes align with their own and receive personalized monthly recommendations.
Claiming the No. 1 spot on this year’s list is Kin by Tayari Jones, a novel that earned widespread praise from Amazon’s editorial team. The book tells the story of two lifelong friends connected by shared loss and enduring loyalty, while exploring themes of family, friendship, race, and identity.
“Our team reads across every genre and brings a wide range of tastes to the table, so it’s rare for one book to unite us all. But Kin did just that,” said Sarah Gelman, Editorial Director at Amazon Books. She described the novel as a deeply moving story that remains with readers long after they finish the final page.
Reacting to the recognition, Jones said the honor was especially meaningful, comparing the writing process to sending “a message in a bottle” into the world in hopes of connecting with readers. She added that being chosen as Amazon’s top book of the year so far represents one of the greatest honors a writer can receive.
Kin joins a distinguished group of previous No. 1 selections, including Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy, James by Percival Everett, Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano, and Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.
Among the other highly ranked books on Amazon’s list are Patrick Radden Keefe’s investigative nonfiction work London Falling, Caro Claire Burke’s thought-provoking novel Yesteryear, Belle Burden’s memoir Strangers, Eli Raphael’s suspense novel Night Objects, Maggie O’Farrell’s historical tale Land, Jordan Ritter Conn’s American Men, Rainbow Rowell’s romance Cherry Baby, Luke Dumas’ horror novel Nothing Tastes as Good, and Gabriel Tallent’s friendship-centered novel Crux.
