Walmart Extends Free HIV Testing to 18 Pharmacies Across Colorado and Virginia

pecialty Pharmacies of the Community (SPOCs) located within Walmart Pharmacies across Colorado and Virginia. This expansion, timed just ahead of National HIV Testing Day on June 27, follows a successful pilot program at two Walmart pharmacies in Virginia last year. The screenings are part of Walmart’s ongoing commitment to enhance healthcare accessibility, affordability, and convenience.

These HIV screenings are provided free of charge to patients as part of an extended pilot program running through September 27. Administered within Walmart’s SPOCs, these screenings benefit from Walmart’s comprehensive care approach, including industry-leading clinical programs, HIV-trained pharmacists, personalized care coordination, and lifestyle recommendations.

Kevin Host, Senior Vice President of Pharmacy at Walmart, emphasized the importance of expanding access to HIV care and reducing stigma associated with HIV. “Our new HIV Point-of-Care Screening locations, led by pharmacists, are uniquely positioned to support those who may be undiagnosed or experiencing symptoms,” he stated.

During these screenings, which involve a simple blood sample via finger prick, Walmart pharmacists not only conduct the HIV test but also provide counseling on preventative measures such as STI tests, contraceptive options, and related medications. Results are typically available in less than 30 minutes.

In Colorado, participating locations offering HIV Point-of-Care Screenings include:

  • Store #3566 – 9400 E Hampden Ave., Aurora, CO 80014
  • Store #5334 – 3301 Tower Rd., Aurora, CO 80014
  • Store #4288 – 4651 W. 121st Ave., Broomfield, CO 80020
  • Store #2223 – 9499 Sheridan Blvd., Westminster, CO 80031
  • Store #3533 – 7800 Smith Rd., Denver, CO 80207
  • Store #1434 – 707 8th St., Colorado Springs, CO 80905
  • Store #2125 – 7455 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood, CO 80214
  • Store #1001 – 4080 W. Northern Ave., Pueblo, CO 81005

It’s important to note that while these screenings provide initial test results, they are not diagnostic. In the event of a positive result, Walmart pharmacists assist patients in coordinating with their primary care physicians or local health departments for confirmatory testing.
