Shift4, a leader in integrated payments and commerce technology, has acquired a majority stake in Vectron Systems AG, a prominent European provider of point-of-sale (POS) systems for the restaurant and hospitality sectors. Vectron, headquartered in Germany, currently serves approximately 65,000 POS locations across Europe, with a collective transaction volume of around €25 billion, which currently sees minimal payment monetization. Shift4 plans to increase its ownership through a forthcoming public tender offer expected to conclude within the next month, followed by the de-listing of Vectron and its integration into Shift4’s operations.
This acquisition marks a strategic move for Shift4, aiming to significantly expand its customer base throughout Europe and bolster its distribution network with approximately 300 POS resellers. Shift4 anticipates enhancing Vectron’s offerings by integrating its advanced payment services, thereby offering a comprehensive POS and payment solution tailored for the European market.
Jared Isaacman, CEO of Shift4, commented, “Shift4 has been a pioneer in integrating software and payments within the US restaurant and hospitality sectors. We see a robust demand for similar integrated solutions across Europe. With our integrated payments and SkyTab solutions, we are confident that we offer the best-in-class solution at a competitive price point. Vectron’s local expertise and distribution capabilities will be instrumental in meeting this demand. This acquisition aligns perfectly with Shift4’s strategy, enabling us to unlock synergies, expand our reach, and capitalize on payment opportunities within Vectron’s extensive installed base.”
In addition to acquiring Vectron, Shift4 has finalized its acquisition of Revel Systems, a move that adds over 18,000 merchant locations across the US and internationally to its portfolio, representing a significant payment opportunity exceeding $17 billion. Shift4 plans to leverage Revel’s direct sales and dealer distribution network to accelerate the global distribution of its SkyTab solution.
Shift4 was advised by Perella Weinberg Partners and Gleiss-Lutz on the Vectron acquisition, and by Chiesa, Shahinian, and Giantomasi on the Revel acquisition.
