Sainsbury’s has announced its partnership with NCR Voyix (NYSE: VYX), a global leader in digital commerce solutions, to enhance its shopping experience and support the Next Level Sainsbury’s business strategy. This seven-year agreement builds on a more than 20-year strategic partnership between the UK grocer and NCR Voyix.
As part of this collaboration, Sainsbury’s will upgrade its checkout technology by implementing the NCR Voyix Commerce Platform, Point of Sale (POS) Solutions, and Next Generation Self-Checkout systems across 22,500 checkouts in its supermarkets, convenience stores, and petrol stations. These technologies, powered by NCR Voyix Edge software, aim to provide innovative solutions for Sainsbury’s customers and colleagues.
By leveraging NCR Voyix cloud technology, Sainsbury’s will speed up the customer journey through real-time data and analytics and harness artificial intelligence (AI) for sales analysis, estimating future store performance, colleague productivity, and cash management.
The new platform will allow colleagues to approve transactions remotely via tablet, accelerating the checkout process and enhancing the shopping experience. Additionally, the next-generation self-checkout systems, powered by AI, will deliver personalized promotions tailored to each customer.
“Our commitment to unbeatable quality food and great service, whether in-store or online, is strengthened by NCR Voyix technology,” said Clodagh Moriarty, chief retail and technology director at Sainsbury’s. “NCR Voyix has grown alongside Sainsbury’s for two decades, unlocking new capabilities and optimizing product management, sales forecasting, and store efficiencies. This partnership drives us to the Next Level and delivers for customers, colleagues, and shareholders.”
“We aim to operate at the speed of consumers, if not faster – striving to outpace the market and keep our customers ahead of the curve with configurable, scalable, and smart technology,” said Eric Schoch, executive vice president and president of Retail at NCR Voyix. “With our modern software-first approach, Sainsbury’s can implement rapid changes at much lower costs, run services in the cloud, and operate self-checkout at the speed of a digital channel.”
With a fully hosted, edge-enabled POS system deployed by NCR Voyix, Sainsbury’s will have the flexibility to quickly adapt to market trends, eliminating in-store complexities and paving the way for innovative digital and in-store experiences for customers.

About Sainsbury’s
Offering delicious, great-quality food at competitive prices has been at the heart of what we do since John James and Mary Ann Sainsbury opened our first store in 1869. Today, inspiring and delighting our customers with tasty food remains our priority, and our purpose is clear – we make good food joyful, accessible, and affordable for everyone, every day.
Our focus on great value food and convenient shopping, whether in-store or online, is supported by our brands – Argos, Nectar, Tu Clothing, Habitat, Sainsbury’s Bank, and Smart Charge. Sainsbury’s has nearly 600 supermarkets and over 800 convenience stores. Argos is a leading digital retailer and the third most visited retail website in the UK, with over 70 percent of its sales starting online. Argos is conveniently available for customers to collect from hundreds of Sainsbury’s stores. Digital and technology enable us to adapt as customers shop differently, and our profitable, fast-growing online channels offer customers quick and convenient delivery and collection options.
