Moreau Paris Acquired by Leading Luxury Manufacturer

The acquisition strengthens Moreau Paris’ heritage while expanding its global presence and luxury leather craftsmanship.

ASTEREN announced that the Paris Commercial Court has approved Cardinal Invest, the parent company of French luxury goods manufacturer Groupe Lécuyer, to acquire Moreau Paris, one of France’s most prestigious luxury leather brands.

This transaction marks the successful conclusion of the international bidding process conducted under the supervision of the Paris Commercial Court, and also opens a new chapter for this one of the few independent classic monogram brands in Paris.

The acquisition process, led by Asteren’s legal liquidator Pablo Castanon and with Richard Morgan Advisory serving as financial advisor, has attracted widespread attention from global trade and financial investors since its launch in early June.

The court formally signed the ruling on July 29, laying the foundation for the restart of investment, international expansion, and long-term industrial development of this outstanding brand.

Inheriting the classics, renowned worldwide

Founded in 1882, Moreau is one of the few long-established classic monogram brands in Paris, on par with Louis Vuitton, Goyard, and Moynat.

The brand’s origins can be traced back to the workshop founded in 1764 on Rue Saint-Honoré by Louis Moreau, a master furniture craftsman born in Paris. His family later became known for their exquisite craftsmanship in trunks and leather goods.

Like many long-established French luxury brands, Moreau disappeared for a time in the 20th century but was successfully revived in the early 2010s.

Subsequently, under the leadership of the Japanese luxury goods group Onward, the brand received substantial investment. Onward acquired Moreau in 2016 and focused on retail expansion. The flagship store on Rue Saint-Honoré, a suburb of Paris, opened in 2017, showcasing Moreau’s leather and canvas products, as well as rare 18th-century antiques and original trunks.

After Onward withdrew from the European market in 2020, Moreau was acquired by a group of retail entrepreneurs. They continue to drive brand revitalization, invest in international expansion, strengthen the franchise network, and support growth in key markets.

Under his leadership, Moreau’s sales in the key market of Japan grew by more than 30% between 2022 and 2025. In addition, a new flagship store in Houston, operated by a partner, opened in December 2025, demonstrating Moreau’s continued international expansion.

Currently, Maison Moreau generates approximately €10 million in retail sales annually worldwide through boutiques, department stores, franchise chains, and digital channels.

The natural industrial destination

Groupe Lécuyer, owned by the Odend’hal family in Normandy, boasts over three centuries of experience in manufacturing across the entire leather and textile value chain. With approximately 800 employees in France and globally, it supplies products to renowned luxury brands and other industries worldwide.

This acquisition will bring Maison Moreau stronger industrial capabilities, more efficient product development, broader international distribution channels and long-term financial support, while preserving its unique brand image and exquisite craftsmanship.

Groupe Lécuyer’s expertise will complement Maison Moreau’s established Italian production system. The combination of Italy’s renowned leather craftsmanship and France’s unique expertise will further enhance the brand’s appeal and solidify its position among the world’s top classic luxury brands.

Commercial courts are a meeting point where companies facing financial difficulties meet with investors and work together to find business solutions. Moreau is a perfect example of how complex situations can lead to a positive outcome.”

Success stories of French luxury goods

This acquisition reflects the continued appeal of the French luxury goods and consumer goods industry to investors and demonstrates how a sound judicial restructuring process allows companies to engage in transparent and competitive acquisitions, thereby preserving these high-value enterprises.

This transaction was largely unexpected. Shareholders had been exploring various options to strengthen the group’s capital base and drive its next phase of development.

An internal restructuring that impacted the group’s historical structure ultimately led to a court oversight process involving the French holding company, which abruptly brought the entire global operations of one of Paris’s last remaining independent classic monogram brands to market.

This transaction has brought the brand and its Parisian roots into the spotlight. Brands with such a rich history as Moreau rarely appear on the market, so the deal immediately attracted industry buyers and financial investors from around the world.

The enthusiastic response from investors throughout the process demonstrates the continued strong international attention given to French luxury brands. This acquisition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this extraordinary traditional brand.”
