Hewlett Packard Enterprise has unveiled its annual Living Progress Report for the fiscal year 2023, highlighting its strategic focus and dedication to sustainable and responsible technology solutions in a data-centric world.
Antonio Neri, President and CEO of HPE, emphasized, “Technology is driving us towards a sustainable society where fundamental needs like food and healthcare are met within ecological limits, while ensuring security and privacy. At HPE, we are committed to ethical innovation and sustainability to accelerate what comes next.”
Transitioning to a net-zero enterprise is a key objective for HPE, aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across its entire value chain by 2040. This commitment is underpinned by targets aligned with climate science and endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative. HPE has already surpassed its 2025 goal of sourcing 50% renewable electricity ahead of schedule for two consecutive years.
Addressing Scope 3 emissions, which constitute the majority of its greenhouse gas footprint beyond direct control, remains a significant challenge. Despite a year-over-year 8% increase in overall emissions in 2023 due to business growth and product mix changes, HPE continues to innovate towards its 2030 targets. The company has also linked executive compensation to climate metrics, reinforcing accountability for reducing carbon intensity.
HPE’s portfolio of sustainable IT offerings continues to expand, supporting customers in minimizing environmental impact throughout the IT lifecycle. New services like HPE Right Mix Advisor and the Sustainability Insights Center provide tools for environmental decision-making and optimization across data centers and workloads.
Recognized for its ethical standards and commitment to human rights, HPE integrates these principles into its supply chain operations and product development. The company launched new initiatives in 2023 focused on worker rights and AI ethics, underscoring its dedication to responsible business practices.
In fostering a culture of inclusion, HPE maintains strong engagement and retention rates among its diverse workforce. With initiatives like tech accelerators for startups focused on social impact, HPE continues to drive innovation in areas like climate change mitigation.
HPE’s ethical leadership has been acknowledged by various organizations, including its top ranking in the JUST100 list and recognition in ESG ratings and ethical business awards.
