GLAM4GOOD Hosts Free Pop-Up Shop and Winter Essentials Drive for Boston College Students in Need

GLAM4GOOD, a nonprofit organization focused on uplifting communities by enhancing self-esteem and providing essential clothing and self-care resources, is proud to announce the success of its recent pop-up shop and winter essentials drive in the Boston area. With the poverty rate among Boston’s college students reaching a concerning 28.2% according to the Boston Redevelopment Authority, this initiative aimed to help students prepare for the harsh Boston winter by offering them critical cold-weather essentials such as warm coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and personal care items. The event allowed students to access these resources free of charge, helping them stay focused on their education with dignity and confidence.

Addressing Basic Needs Insecurity

Research highlights that many Massachusetts students face hunger, homelessness, and other forms of basic needs insecurity, which can be major barriers to academic success. GLAM4GOOD’s mission is to address these challenges by providing essential clothing and hygiene products to first-generation students and those experiencing financial hardship. This initiative specifically catered to over 625 students from top Boston-area institutions, including Boston College, Boston University, Emmanuel College, Harvard, MIT, Northeastern University, Simmons University, Suffolk University, and the University of Massachusetts. Additionally, members of the Wily Network, which supports students who have overcome significant adversity, also participated in the event.

In partnership with Emmanuel College and The Wily Network, GLAM4GOOD hosted a joyful and empowering shopping experience where students could select winter essentials from generous donations by leading brands like Zadig & Voltaire, ULTA Beauty, H&M, Oros, and Cohere Beauty. Students received outerwear, grooming products, and other self-care items—all at no cost. This support allowed them to focus on their studies without the added worry of financial insecurity, making it easier to thrive academically and personally.

A Heartfelt Impact

“The impact of this event is immeasurable,” said Mary Alice Stephenson, Founder and CEO of GLAM4GOOD. “As a graduate of Boston University, I personally understand the difficulties students face when trying to balance their education with financial instability. By providing these essential items, GLAM4GOOD is helping students stay warm and feel confident as they walk into their classrooms, ready to succeed. This event wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible partners, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to support the students of Boston.”

During the event, GLAM4GOOD distributed over 15,000 items of clothing and self-care essentials to students in need. The initiative reached 10 Boston-based colleges and universities, providing critical resources to students who may have struggled to afford them otherwise.

Continued Commitment to Social Impact

As part of its ongoing commitment to the community, GLAM4GOOD plans to expand its efforts in the coming months, with additional clothing and self-care distribution for students, faculty, and others in need. The organization’s goal is to ensure that the momentum generated by this event continues to make a difference for those facing financial hardship and insecurity.

“The GLAM4GOOD Winter Essentials Drive has made an enormous difference in the lives of our students and the Boston Community,” said Kelly Basile, Associate Professor of Management at Emmanuel College. “The financial strain of college often results in clothing and self-care insecurity, which can impact a student’s self-esteem and sense of empowerment. The items provided by GLAM4GOOD are not just about material goods—they represent the opportunity for our students to stay focused on their studies and feel confident in their everyday lives. GLAM4GOOD’s support has been a lifeline for many, and we are deeply thankful for their ongoing partnership.”
