Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grants Exceed $10.6 Million

Today, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) announced over $10.6 million in grants to support nearly 1,100 adult, family, and summer literacy programs nationwide. These grants are expected to benefit more than 1.4 million individuals. The complete list of grant recipients is available at www.dgliteracy.org.

With this round of grants, the Foundation has now helped more than 20 million people achieve their educational goals since its inception in 1993.

“We believe everyone deserves access to quality education, and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation is thrilled to support thousands of learners across the country as they enrich their lives with literacy and education,” said Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “This spring’s grant cycle is especially exciting as we surpass impacting more than 20 million individuals. We hope these funds provide the resources needed to positively change students’ lives, helping them build a brighter future for themselves and generations to come.”

In line with Dollar General’s commitment to supporting literacy and education in its local communities, the DGLF annually awards grants to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center. These grants help implement or expand existing literacy programs by increasing access to instruction, improving the quality of instruction, purchasing new technology, books, and materials, or supporting professional development for educators. The Foundation plans to announce its 2024 youth literacy grant recipients in August 2024.

Founded over 30 years ago, the Foundation has awarded more than $250 million to support over 24,000 organizations in advancing equitable access to quality education and fostering a love of reading. Additionally, the DGLF will launch its fifth annual Yellow Glasses Project campaign on July 17, 2024, where customers can purchase yellow sunglasses at Dollar General stores for $2 each to benefit the Foundation.
