NielsenIQ (NIQ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dan Bonert as the new head of retail media in North America, effective December 30, 2024. Bonert brings over 25 years of experience in media and SaaS, making him an ideal leader for overseeing NIQ’s retail media business. His appointment comes as part of NIQ’s strategy to enhance its retail media offerings and to integrate its unique data assets more effectively, helping retailers create more impactful insights and solutions. In this role, Bonert will focus on driving innovation in how manufacturers and retailers engage with consumers, providing actionable insights to optimize retail media performance.
“We’re excited to have Dan lead our retail media business,” said Elizabeth Buchanan, President of NIQ North America. “Dan’s strong relationships and deep expertise in retail media make him the perfect fit to drive our vision forward. He’s an innovative and passionate leader, and I am confident he will have a significant impact on our clients, our business, and the industry.”
This appointment aligns with NIQ’s broader strategy, announced at the beginning of 2024, to launch its Media Division. This initiative aims to enhance the value advertisers derive from their marketing efforts and empower partners supporting their clients. Bonert’s leadership is expected to bolster this vision, as he will leverage NIQ’s exceptional data and resources to build solutions that enhance the retail media landscape. His arrival further strengthens the company’s multi-pronged media strategy, combining top-tier talent, data, and products to offer clients unparalleled service.
Bonert’s extensive experience spans roles at Amazon and The Trade Desk, two of the most influential companies in retail media. At The Trade Desk, Bonert played a key role in developing innovative retail media solutions, collaborating with industry-leading retailers to create tailored and scalable offerings. He also helped marketers harness retail data to achieve targeted business outcomes. Prior to that, Bonert served at Amazon, where he led the expansion of the CPG Food and Confectionery ad business, building strategic partnerships and delivering significant growth for both Amazon and his clients.
Reflecting on his new role, Bonert expressed his excitement: “I’m thrilled to join NIQ and lead its retail media initiatives at such an exciting time for the industry. Retail media is transforming the way brands connect with consumers, and I look forward to leveraging NIQ’s unparalleled data and insights to solve marketing and business challenges that help drive growth and innovation for our clients.”
Bonert’s leadership will be central in shaping NIQ’s retail media division as the company continues to evolve and adapt to the dynamic demands of the industry. By focusing on innovative, data-driven strategies, Bonert aims to optimize retail media performance, enabling manufacturers and retailers to engage more effectively with shoppers and improve overall marketing impact.
Bonert will be based at NIQ’s headquarters in Chicago, where he will lead the charge in driving retail media innovations across North America.
