Dagab Consolidates Convenience Trade to Örebro

To streamline logistics, it’s been decided that the Bålsta logistics center will mainly handle volumes for the food retail sector. Consequently, volumes for external convenience trade customers will now be centralized to Dagab’s current warehouse in Örebro.

In recent years, Axfood has enhanced its product supply by establishing a nationwide logistics platform of the highest standard. This initiative began in 2019 with the construction of a new, highly automated logistics center in Bålsta, which now serves all of Axfood’s store concepts. After five years of construction and development, Bålsta has become the main supplying warehouse for most Group-owned and retailer-owned stores in the Mälardalen region and northern Sweden.

Due to Axfood’s significant growth and to optimize logistics, it has been decided that the Bålsta logistics center will primarily handle volumes for the food retail sector. Volumes for external convenience trade customers will now be concentrated at Dagab’s existing warehouse in Örebro. This decision ensures that operations in Örebro will continue and expand as volumes are transferred from Dagab’s warehouses in Skellefteå and Sätra to Örebro by the first half of 2026. Importantly, this decision does not affect the expected annual efficiency improvements resulting from the investment in the Bålsta logistics center.

“Concentrating convenience trade volumes to our Örebro warehouse enables us to deliver better quality, higher efficiency, and secure capacity for further growth in both food retail and the convenience trade,” says Hans Bax, Managing Director of Dagab, Axfood’s purchasing and logistics company.

Furthermore, several ongoing initiatives aim to optimize volume handling between Dagab’s warehouses in southern Sweden. For instance, investments are being made to expand the existing high-bay warehouse in Backa, Gothenburg, and a new, larger warehouse for fruit, vegetables, and flowers was established in Landskrona in late 2022. Additionally, an automation solution was installed in 2023 to improve operations.

“The development of future logistics will result in efficiency improvements and increased capacity, providing a stronger customer offering and competitive edge for our Group’s concepts,” adds Hans Bax.
