Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced today that Prime Day 2024 was the company’s largest Prime Day event ever, setting new records for sales and the number of items sold over the two-day event. During this 48-hour shopping spree, Prime members around the world saved billions on deals across every category.
With an extensive selection and some of the lowest prices of the year, this year’s Prime Day saw a significant increase in participation, with millions more Prime members shopping compared to Prime Day 2023. The event also led to a record number of new Prime memberships, with millions joining in the three weeks leading up to Prime Day.
“Prime Day 2024 was a tremendous success, thanks to the millions of Prime members who turned to Amazon for exceptional deals and the dedicated employees, delivery partners, and sellers who made it all possible,” said Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores. “We’re thrilled to offer Prime members incredible savings and celebrate the benefits of Prime membership, including shopping, entertainment, food delivery, and more.”
Popular brands like Sol de Janeiro, Apple, Dyson, and Ring, as well as small businesses such as TruSkin, ALOHA, Blueland, and Native Pet, saw significant engagement, with U.S. members shopping more deals from small businesses than ever before. Independent sellers, primarily small and medium-sized businesses, sold over 200 million items during the event.
Prime members enjoyed substantial discounts on Amazon devices, subscriptions like Amazon Music Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited, Audible, Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market grocery delivery, and food delivery through Grubhub+. Additionally, Prime members in the U.S. consolidated millions of orders, saving an estimated 10 million trips and reducing carbon emissions.
Amazon’s new AI-powered conversational shopping assistant, Rufus, helped millions of customers navigate Amazon’s extensive selection quickly and easily. The Prime Day event also saw high engagement with Amazon Inspire, an app-based shopping experience that allows users to discover products through videos and images from other customers, influencers, and brands. Inspire is accessible via the Play icon in the Amazon Shopping app.
