Ahold Delhaize is partnering with The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), an international non-profit dedicated to hunger relief and reducing food waste. Beginning in July 2024, Ahold Delhaize will support GFN’s mission to bolster community-led food banks, which play a vital role in redirecting surplus, nutritious food to those in need.
Given Ahold Delhaize’s extensive involvement in the food industry, it is logical for its local brands to collaborate with local food banks, offering food donations and other resources. Through this partnership with GFN, Ahold Delhaize aims to enhance its local brands’ community initiatives by providing financial support and expertise. This will help GFN build capacity, offer technical assistance, and drive innovation, making food banks more effective and resilient across the nine countries where Ahold Delhaize operates.
Frans Muller, President and CEO of Ahold Delhaize, stated: “Our brands’ stores have long been more than just grocery outlets; they have actively partnered with local food banks, positively impacting their communities. Partnering with The Global FoodBanking Network enables us to further address food insecurity and prioritize healthy, nutritious, and sustainable food. GFN and its network of local food banks are invaluable in providing families and individuals with a better and healthier future.”
Lisa Moon, President and CEO of The Global FoodBanking Network, added: “Food banks, rooted in their communities, are crucial in reducing food insecurity and minimizing the environmental impact of food waste. Thoughtful partnerships like this one with Ahold Delhaize strengthen these community bonds by providing impactful support and expertise, ensuring that more food reaches families’ tables. Together, we can nourish people and the planet.”
This partnership announcement coincides with the presentation of Ahold Delhaize’s new Growing Together strategy, which emphasizes supporting the transition to a healthy and sustainable food system, ensuring that healthy and sustainable food is accessible to all.
