Target’s exclusive owned brands stand out as a key attraction for shoppers, offering something unique that’s synonymous with the Target experience—bringing happiness and exceptional value to all. While we remain the sole destination for these beloved brands in the U.S., we’ve recently embarked on a journey to introduce them to new markets and audiences.
In spring 2024, we initiated a wholesale collaboration with Canadian retailer Hudson’s Bay, introducing nearly 1,400 sought-after Cat & Jack kids’ apparel items across all Hudson’s Bay stores and online at TheBay.com. Most items are priced under $20 Canadian dollars.
Our aim is to provide Hudson’s Bay customers with a wider selection of affordable, durable, and fashionable kids’ clothing sizes. Research indicates that many Canadian shoppers are already familiar with and fond of Cat & Jack—the leading kids’ apparel brand in the U.S.—for its outstanding design and value.
The enthusiastic response from Hudson’s Bay patrons has prompted us to expand the brand to include swimwear, outerwear, and footwear, offering Canadian consumers even more to adore.
Since the launch of the Cat & Jack collection at Hudson’s Bay, customers have been purchasing more kids’ apparel per shopping trip, resulting in a 15% increase in basket size.
“It’s incredibly gratifying to witness the enthusiastic response of Canadian consumers to the remarkable value offered by Cat & Jack,” shares Christina Hennington, Target’s chief growth officer. “The fusion of exceptional design, top-notch quality, and competitive pricing distinguishes Target’s owned brands, and we’re thrilled to extend these offerings to a broader audience beyond our domestic market.”
“In all our endeavors, our paramount focus remains on prioritizing our customers,” emphasizes Liz Rodbell, president and CEO of Hudson’s Bay. “Now more than ever, families seek quality, value, and sustainability when selecting clothing for their children. Cat & Jack fulfills these criteria seamlessly, providing comfort, versatility, and joy in children’s attire.”
Our wholesale initiatives with Hudson’s Bay mark just the beginning. We are committed to further expanding our reach with Hudson’s Bay and exploring opportunities in fresh markets and partnerships to introduce our brands to more consumers, with a steadfast commitment to long-term growth.
Target continuously seeks avenues to expand its owned brand portfolio, which generates over $30 billion in annual sales. With more than ten brands already surpassing the $1 billion mark annually and showing potential to evolve into multi-billion global brands, the possibilities are vast. From the latest additions like budget-friendly essentials and innovative Gigglescape toys to the expansion of beloved brands like up&up essentials and Embark outdoor gear, there’s something for everyone.
Stay tuned for exciting developments.
