PUMA Earns Recognition in TIME’s “World’s Most Sustainable Companies” Ranking

Sports company PUMA has achieved recognition in TIME magazine’s prestigious “World’s Most Sustainable Companies” ranking, in collaboration with Statista. This accolade considers crucial environmental metrics, transparency levels, and evaluations by external organizations. Notably, PUMA emerged as the top-ranking entity in the Apparel, Footwear & Sporting Goods sector, achieving a score of 73.02 out of a possible 100 points.

Anne-Laure Descours, Chief Sourcing Officer at PUMA, expressed pride in the acknowledgment of their sustainability strategy, FOREVER. BETTER., emphasizing recent milestones. “Being ranked among the most sustainable companies by such a prestigious publication is a great recognition of our FOREVER. BETTER. sustainability strategy, for which we achieved important milestones last year,” Descours remarked. She further underscored PUMA’s commitment to intensifying efforts to further diminish its environmental impact.

PUMA has set ambitious targets across various domains encompassing climate, circularity, and human rights. Remarkably, the company has surpassed two of its 2025 objectives ahead of schedule. These include eliminating plastic carrier bags from its owned and operated stores and progressing research into biodegradable plastic alternatives. Additionally, PUMA achieved its Human Rights target by empowering over 220,000 factory workers through training programs and fully mapping human rights risks within its subcontractors and Tier 2 suppliers.

Earlier this year, PUMA announced the attainment of its science-based CO2 reduction target seven years earlier than planned. This achievement spurred the establishment of a more ambitious climate target aligned with scientific recommendations to limit global temperature increases to below 1.5 degrees Celsius.

PUMA has significantly bolstered its sustainability initiatives by introducing renewable electricity at key suppliers, employing materials with lower carbon footprints, opting for low-carbon shipping options, and investing in electric vehicles for its fleet. Moreover, the company sources renewable energy and recently inaugurated a substantial photovoltaic installation at its global headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany, expected to meet one-fifth of the building’s electricity requirements.

Material choices are pivotal in PUMA’s sustainability framework, with a substantial portion of its 2023 product lineup—eight out of ten items—incorporating recycled and certified materials, particularly recycled polyester.

PUMA continues to lead by example in sustainable practices within the sports industry, aiming to foster a positive impact on both the environment and society at large.
