Consumers are increasingly prioritizing sustainability this peak shopping season, even if it comes at a higher cost. nShift, a global leader in delivery and experience management, has released four key strategies to help make this year’s peak season more environmentally friendly.
A recent study found that 80% of consumers are willing to pay extra for a more sustainable shopping experience, with ethical shoppers prepared to pay nearly 10% more for products they believe to be ethically sourced or recycled.
Mattias Gredenhag, CTO of nShift, noted, “While shoppers may be searching for discounts ahead of Black Friday and Christmas, they also want their purchases to align with their environmental values. More and more, ethical consumers are gravitating towards retailers that reflect these principles. Therefore, for online and multichannel retailers, highlighting eco-certifications is now a crucial part of attracting and retaining customers.”
nShift outlines four strategies for retailers to create a more sustainable peak season:
- Provide sustainable delivery options at checkout: Many shoppers are willing to pay more for low-emission delivery. Retailers should ensure these options are visible and clearly labeled to make it easier for consumers to choose them.
- Enable consumers to give back: Retailers can offer delivery options that automatically trigger donations to sustainable or charitable causes, appealing to consumers who value ethical shopping.
- Measure carbon emissions: Retailers that track carbon emissions for each shipment can provide tangible evidence of their commitment to eco-friendly practices, helping build trust with environmentally conscious customers.
- Encourage in-store returns: By offering free in-store returns through a digital process, retailers can reduce emissions from deliveries and foster interactions with customers, potentially converting returns into exchanges.
nShift’s Delivery Experience Management (DMXM) platform enables retailers to streamline their delivery process, from checkout to returns, ensuring a seamless and integrated customer experience. With tools like nShift Checkout and nShift Emissions Tracker, businesses can offer a range of shipping options and accurately measure the carbon footprint of each shipment.
